Square Glass Dining Table

Square Glass Dining Table

Purchasing a dining table is project worth pondering. Considering what you’ll be using it for, it might very well be located in a high traffic area of your home. Also, unless you’re fortunate enough to have two dining areas in your home, you’re likely to use it daily. For these reasons alone, it should be something you love. Depending on the shape of your dining area, one of the go-to classics to consider is a square glass dining table.

Glass tables can be found with a nice variety of bases, allowing you to match your existing décor. Glass itself might lean towards a more contemporary look, but take a peak at what’s out there and you’ll see some beautiful antique wrought iron bases, all shades and types of wooden bases … in other words, a base to fit any style. The glass top itself can accentuate to the style you’re going for. Some tables have the simplest plain glass, and others have intricately etched designs. Either one adds its own spark of elegance to your dining room area. Whatever size and style you select, make sure you’re purchasing a table with tempered or “toughened” glass for durability.

Square glass dining tables can be found in a wide range of sizes and prices. Chances are that even the smallest nook, in a teeny tiny apartment, can hold a small square glass table and a couple of chairs. The reflective nature of glass naturally brightens any room, making it a great choice for a smaller, darker area. In a larger room, a larger dining table will draw the eye, and likely be a signature piece for your décor.  It can also double as student desk furniture when your student does not have a desk area to do school work.  A student needs a desk to work at and the dining area can be the best place to spend time studying.

Probably my favorite thing about glass table tops is the ease in cleaning. These tables are not likely to scratch or stain. There is no need for furniture polish, or one of those wood stain crayons to erase dings. Grab some paper towels and some glass cleaner and your table will clean up beautifully after the kids’ session of finger painting, or that inevitable glass of spilled milk.

Whatever table you choose, here’s hoping it’s the center of many wonderful dinners, whether it’s an intimate dinner for two, or a chatter-filled family gathering!

Picking tables for a dining area can be a tricky decision, especially when deciding between a formal and informal dining room design. The interesting thing about glass top dining tables, is that they work nicely in both formal and informal dining room settings. Glass table tops also coordinate well with modern design themes, and add a fresh new design element to more traditional design themes. In a room with a lot of light, glass table tops heighten the airy and luminous effects. In rooms with opulent design details, glass table tops allow more of the room to be seen.

In a formal dining room, there is likely to be glass panes which cover the doors to china cabinets, glassware or cut crystal on display, and a high shine polish which has been used on the woods in the room. A glass table top matches with the glass used on the china cabinet doors, and compliments the high shine sparkle of lacquered wood.

Informal dining rooms can look equally as appropriate with a glass top dining table. If the dining room is informal, it is possible that some of the pieces of furniture do not match, and that the pieces may be unfinished or painted different colors. When a glass top dining table is added to the mix, it pulls the room together. The glass top is the ultimate transparent design statement, and the dining table is the unifying piece in the dining room. Because the table is central to the design elements of the dining room, it should relate and match to everything else in some way. The rectangular shape naturally matches with most dining room furniture shapes, and the clear top matches with every color of furniture. It acts as a unifying element to a room which would otherwise seem haphazardly designed.

A rectangular glass top dining table will almost always match a dining room setting, so if the other furniture in the room is changed, it is likely that the table top can be kept in the dining room no matter how drastically the other furniture changes. Rectangular glass top dining tables are also a good option to use in a household with children. Though glass may not seem like the best option to have in a house with children, it is a good surface to dine on because spills can easily be wiped up from glass surfaces.

Another factor to consider before your glass dining table purchase is what size you need.  Factors for determining the size include:

1) How much space you have for the table
2) How many people you need to seat
3) How often you entertain guests and how many

An example a glass dining table size is a thirty-six inch round table can seat up to 4 people without cramping anyone else in.  You will always get more people to fit at a rectangular table.  A rectangular glass table that is ninety-six inches in length can seat as many as fourteen people!  It is just a matter of how much space you have to put the dining table.

Be certain to account for extra guests when deciding the size glass dining table you will purchase.  Having to many guests show up unexpectedly and not having enough space to accomodate those guests can be very frustrating and a bit emberrassing.  If you are not sure, it is always good to go with a size a bit larger than what you plan on for every day use.
